What might be included in a “House History?”
As a house historian, I research the history of a house, paying particular attention to the social history of the families who have lived there over time. This research is done at county courthouses and archives, historical societies, local libraries, and even at the home itself. It includes a search of a variety of original and derivative records. Any records that may shed light on the history of families in a specific home are analyzed and correlated to tell the home’s story.
Resources Used to Research a House History:
-
- Deeds
- Census records
- Tax records
- City directories
- Newspapers
- Maps
- Town and county histories
